Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)

The Central Board of Secondary Education

The largest exam conducting body of the world, the Central Board of Secondary Education is one of the most prestigious educational boards of India. Controlled and managed by the Union Government of India, CBSE conducts board exams for class 10 and 12, Joint Entrance Examination for students aspiring for engineering, NEET for medical students, NET and CTET for teachers. 

Formed in 1952, CBSE has managed to provide standard education and robust environment to around 19,316 schools in India and 211 schools in 25 foreign countries. Apart from the private and public schools affiliated to CBSE, Jawahar Narvodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas are also there. All of these schools have been assigned a common curriculum i.e. NCERT.  The board aims to provide a healthy and complete school education to all the students so that they can get adequate room to develop physically and mentally.

What are the Main Objectives of CBSE? 

Established in 1952, CBSE works on certain principles to fulfill the following goals: 

  • To determine suitable methods of academic activities to provide a stress free, child focused and all-round education to all children without compromising on the quality.
  • To examine and supervise the quality of academic activities by gathering the feedback from different stakeholders
  • To develop norms for the implementation of several academic activities including quality issues; to control and organize the execution of several academic and training plans of the Board; to organize academic activities and to monitor other agencies involved in the operation
  • To adjust and innovate methods to reach traditional academic excellence with psychological, academic and social rules.
  • To encourage schools to document the progress of students with a teacher and student friendly manner
  • To organize various capacity building and empowerment programs to update the professional competency of instructors
  • To propose conditions of examinations and conduct open examination at the end of Class X and XII. 
  • To satisfy the educational demands of those students whose parents were employed in transferable jobs
  • To prescribe and update the course of instructions of examinations
  • To affiliate institutions for the purpose of examination and advance the academic standards of the state.
