Chemistry plays an important role for CBSE Year 11 students. Knowledge of each subject in the CBSE NCERT program is required for all Year 11 students. NCERT Chemistry Class 11 consists of a total of 14 chapters.

Some concepts such as ionic bonding, van der Waals forces, atomic structure, and redox reactions have been repeatedly questioned over the years. Therefore, students should thoroughly study these subjects using CBSE Notes Class 11 Chemistry Notes. However, this does not mean that students should ignore the other chapters. In fact, it would be very detrimental. Moreover, in today's extremely competitive environment, studying all chapters will help students stand out from the crowd. CBSE notes are designed to help students easily understand chemistry concepts. Most of the jargon and technical terminology have been explained and frameworks and structures have been developed where necessary.

NCERT Notes for Class 11 Chemistry: Points to Remember

Students can refer to some important points from NCERT Class 11 Chemistry which are given below:

  • In chemical classification, the matter is classified as mixtures, compounds and elements.

  • A homogeneous mixture has uniform composition and properties throughout while a heterogeneous mixture’s composition and properties are not uniform throughout.

  • The law of conservation of mass states that the total mass of all the products in a chemical reaction is the same as that of all the reactants present before the reaction.

  • The law of definite proportions states that a chemical compound is always made up of the same elements combined together in a fixed proportion by mass.

  • In equilibrium state all the properties of the system like temperature, pressure and composition become constant and no change seems to occur in it.

  • In a state of static equilibrium, ‘no change’ at all occurs in the system. This type of equilibrium is attained when different kinds of forces acting on the system balance each other and no ‘net’ force acts on it.

  • In a state of dynamic equilibrium, two opposite changes occur in the system simultaneously and at the same rate, which results in no ‘net change’ occurring in the system.

  • Hydrogen is the lightest element and it shows resemblance with halogens as well as alkali metals. It occupies the first position in the periodic table.

  • Hydrogen is the only element which does not have neutrons in its nucleus.

  • Hydrocarbons are the compounds which are of carbon and hydrogen only.

  • Hydrocarbons are the major sources of energy. LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) and CNG (compressed natural gas), the main sources of energy for domestic fuels and the automobile industry, are obtained from petroleum.
