JEE 2019

JEE 2019

To facilitate undergraduate admissions into various engineering colleges in India, Joint Entrance Exam or JEE is conducted by CBSE and IIT all over India. JEE is recognized as one of the most difficult exam worldwide and thus, JEE preparation requires students to burn midnight oil. Keeping in mind that every year around 1.5 million students appear for JEE exam, students aspiring for JEE Exam 2019, need to plan their preparation strategy in a systematic way.

JEE 2018, which now constitutes of two exams—JEE Mains 2019 and JEE Advanced 2019—had earlier been conducted by CBSE in a different way. Till 2011, CBSE conducted All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) to facilitate admissions into NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs. While IIT used to conduct IIT JEE for admissions into various IITs across India and ISM Dhanbad.

But in 2012, The Central Board of Secondary Education replaced AIEEE and IIT JEE with Joint Entrance Exam or JEE. JEE Mains replaced CBSE’s AIEEE to facilitate admissions in the 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), 20 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and some other colleges labeled as "centrally funded technical institutes" (CFTIs). Meanwhile, IIT JEE was replaced by JEE Advanced for admissions into the 23 IITs and ISM Dhanbad. Also, only students selected in JEE Mains Exam are eligible for JEE Advanced Exam.

Around 2,24,000 students from JEE Mains 2018 Exams will become eligible for JEE Advanced 2018.  Some other institutes like Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research uses scores obtained in JEE Advanced Examination as the basis for admission.

Since 2017, the criteria for JEE Mains has been changed. Earlier, from 2013 -2016, 40% of weightage was given to CBSE Class 12 Board Exam result in calculating all India Ranks for JEE Mains Examination. However, last year, this method to decide the All India Rank was put to an end. Moreover, CBSE made registration with Aadhar Card mandatory for students applying for JEE Mains Exam.

The Two Phases of JEE 2018 Exam:

The Central Board of Secondary Education will conduct the first phase of JEE 2018 i.e. JEE Mains 2018. Further divided into two parts—Paper 1 and Paper 2—JEE Mains 2018 is conducted to facilitate admissions into various engineering universities like NIT, IIIT, DTU and other centrally funded and state universities. Among the various courses offered by these institutes, some are B.Tech/B.E., Integrated MSc’s, B.Arch/B.Planning etc.

JEE 2018 Mains, Paper 1:

  • Conducted to facilitate admission into B.Tech/B.E.
  • Time duration: 3 hours.
  • 90 objective type questions: 30 each for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • 4 marks awarded for correct answer, 1 mark deducted for every wrong answer.
  • Offline Mode of exam: 8th April 2018, Sunday.
  • Online Mode of exam: 15th-16th April 2018, Sunday and Monday.

JEE 2018 Mains, Paper 2:

  • Conducted to facilitate admission into B. Arch/ B. Planning.
  • Time duration: 3 hours.
  • Paper divided into 3 parts: Objective Mathematics (Part 1), Objective Aptitude Test (Part 2) and Drawing test (Part 3).
  • 4 marks awarded for correct answer (Part 1 and Part 2), 1 mark deducted for every wrong answer.
  • No negative marking for Part 3.
  • Offline mode of examination available only.

JEE Advanced 2018, the second phase of JEE 2018, will be conducted online on 20th May 2018, Sunday by IIT Kanpur. Several prominent engineering institutes like IIT and ISM Dhanbad would grant admission to students on the basis of their JEE Advanced 2018 Score. To become eligible for JEE Advanced 2018, students need to clear the prescribed cutoff marks for JEE Mains 2018.

In JEE exams, equal attention to all three subjects—Math, Chemistry and Physics—is essential. With dedication, rigorous practice, and a fix time table, JEE preparation can be easily achieved. Students need to keep in mind that JEE Mains Exam require less level of intellect, logic, and commitment for aiming an average score of around 200 marks since 30% of the questions asked are directly from NCERT textbook concepts. On the other hand, JEE Advanced require more dedication, reasoning, hard work and intelligence. Apart from having concepts on the fingertips, students need have an in-depth understanding of the three subjects.
