Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board—GSEB
As the name suggests, GSEB or Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board is Gujarat government bodyresponsible for ensuring a well-planned educational flow among the masses. Formed on 1st May 1960, the headquarters are located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. GSEB handle various roles, from academics, conducting exams to research and development on how to benefit students or to provide them with better educational opportunities and facilities. Also, the exam dates, question pattern, and marking scheme are all decided by GSEB. These are the same for all schools affiliated to it.
Policies of GSEB:
- Continuous Education and Literacy
- Universalization of Primary Education for children in age group 6 to 14
- Improvement of Secondary and Higher Education
- Concentration of plan and non-plan provisions and best use of investments made in education sector and the purpose of development.
- Improvement in quality of implementation.
Functions of GSEB:
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board or GSEB functions mostly as the exam conducting body in the educational department of Gujarat. Conducting State Level Exams for years, the function of GSEB is to structure a well-planned syllabus for primary to higher secondary.
The task in their hands is to provide a well-equipped syllabus which covers all the parameters that a child needs to grow mentally in that period of time. For successful completion of this task, GSEB searches for the right textbook which covers the entire syllabus in a proper way i.e. with explanations to concepts, multiple solved examples, exercises and illustrations wherever needed.
The Main Function of GSEB is to conduct state level exams for secondary and higher secondary level. For Std 10, it conducts the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam and for Std 12, GSEB conducts the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) exam. Along with these, the board conducts a talent search examination for students of Classes 1 - 12 for providing scholarships and other benefits. It conducts a state level entrance examination for admission to graduation courses in engineering called GUJCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Test)
GSEB is also responsible for conducting a proper inspection on the schools registered with it for the evaluation of their academics and administrative performance. Moreover, it is responsible for affiliating more schools under Gujarat Educational Board.
